Hello, Readers!
I guess I should say…Happy New Year?
I haven’t uploaded a Newsletter in a very (very) long time. It definitely wasn’t due to lack of ideas or not wanting to share any post; Tinyletter suddenly started to misbehave. I couldn’t type in posts or do the copy+paste option. I couldn’t upload photos. I couldn’t use it on any of my devices. I really can’t say what happened to them, but all of a sudden, it was no longer a joyful platform to use.
I recently discovered Subtack and I am already enjoying the user-friendly interface. I have really wanted to share my writing in a manner that is different from my blog, classicallyivy
So much has happened in the last year:
-June 2021 made it a full year since my Mum died (it still hurts. I will keep talking about this).
-I have a Niece now, who has brought indescribable joy to our family.
-I have made new friends and lost others.
-I decided to learn how to crochet and I am enjoying the speed and flexibility it gives me (I still enjoy knitting though).
-I have read A LOT of books, and I always share mini-reviews on my blog and Instagram page (I really do not like long book reviews).
-I turned 40 in August this year, for which I had the low-key celebration and book-shaped cake that I desired. I also dealt with some other stuff (I might dedicate an entire newsletter to asking the question-why can’t people simply be happy for you, no matter what?).
-Twitter has been banned in Nigeria. I have no words.
-I have been enjoying watching Big Brother Naija, because putting people together in a confined space either brings out the best or worst in them, and makes for generally interesting viewing.
-Work is still, as always, work.
-I have learned put my solitude first because people try to give you a timeline to deal with your grief in a way that is convenient for them. It can be exhausting.
I am thankful for everything, and I hope to keep writing in a manner that makes me happy.
I hope you have a great week ahead.
Ivie.
